We are Queens of Where the Wild Ocean Things are.
We march on the waves, and they dare not touch our toes as we jump, leap, and squeal over them.
We surf in the waves, and they cradle us with salt currents.
We channel baby sea turtles to the wild blue yonder. We wave our palm frond scepters. We bring chalices of tea, coffee, and water to commune with the Wild Ocean Things.
We are not afraid of the arachnid underbelly of the horseshoe crab.
We are not afraid of the ghost crabs that haunt moonlit beach.
We are not afraid of the tide that rises and falls and surges magnetically toward us again.
We command the wind through our hair; the grasses of Mermaid Lagoon bow to us.
We are conveyers of kayaks, swimmers with dolphins, feeders of sea gulls.
We mark the pilgrim Pelican’s progress in horizon lines across the sky.
We bathe in sunscreen and bug spray and sea foam.
We baptize in saltwater ponds and trenches and swimming pools and castle moats.
We inspire marches through the marshes.
We accept ocean storm thunder as coronation applause.
We are Queens of Where the Wild Ocean Things are.
Day 21 of 31 days. For the month of October, I’m joining in on 31 Days of 5 Minute Free Writes. Following the rules to write an unedited response to a prompt in 5 minutes, I’m grateful for the challenge of Write 31 Days.
And lovely, brave queens you are.
Oh my gosh I love it! You transported me there!
Seriously? This is incredible. You amaze us all with perfect (I mean PERFECT) posts and then you drop a beautiful prose poem on us just to show your amazing range as a writer. We are not worthy.
Seriously in awe of you!
